The kitchen is the room that takes the most traffic in a house and shows wear first. This one needed the whole working surface replaced: floor, counters, cabinets and backsplash.
We took the dated surfaces out, prepped the subfloor and laid a waterproof wood-look plank before the cabinets went in - that order matters, because the floor height sets the dishwasher clearance and how the thresholds into the next room land. White shaker boxes went in over it, with quartz on the perimeter runs and a granite top on the island so it reads as a separate piece rather than more of the same.
The result is a working kitchen that will take two decades of family traffic. The floor is the part that matters most for that: in a room with a dishwasher, a fridge line and a sink, a waterproof core is not a luxury.
